Plio is an open-source tool that empowers educators to convert videos into interactive lessons and gather rich data on how their students are learning. We are now open to all educators! What are you waiting for?

Hey there! September was an exciting month for us. Before the start of the month, we had less than 2000 users and in the past month alone, we saw that number grow to upwards of 6000.
Since the platform has now grown significantly, we have to perform a lot of checks before deploying any new feature and so, our development speed has taken a minor hit. But, as they say, “With great power, comes great responsibility”.
Here is what we’ve been working on for the past month :)
The Plio Scorecard is here🔥
A scorecard will now be shown to viewers on completing a Plio. We realized that it is important to acknowledge the viewer’s effort and close the feedback loop given the context in which Plio is used - revision, homework and assessments. We spent a lot of time trying to get this one right!
Soon after this feature was launched, we saw many of our super users already showing it a lot of love and sprinkling it with their own creativity ❤️
Being able to see that our work instantly affected the mood of a few students living in a rural village in Haryana really made us happy! :)

Plios are now embeddable 😎
A feature that has been requested from a lot of organizations using Plio is the support for embedding Plios. We are very happy to share that creators can now embed their plios on their own website!
Once a plio is published, creators will see a button to generate a code for embedding the plio that can be easily copied and added to a website. You can read our docs to learn more about this. Go ahead and try it out!
A Netflix-style Player🍿
Our older player had two major issues:
There was a lot of wasted space on the mobile
A viewer had to click a button to enter the player in fullscreen mode for playing the video and answering the questions
Now, we have taken inspiration from the intuitiveness of the Netflix player to improve our own player. The viewer does not need to open the player in fullscreen mode anymore and there is no more space being wasted. Here is a comparison!
Clearer user guide for downloaded reports 📄
We received a lot of feedback from our users about not being able to understand how to use the reports generated for each plio. We realized that we had used a lot of jargon in the explainer document accompanying each report and the document itself is written in Markdown - which is not what most people are comfortable with.
We have now replaced the Markdown file with a PDF and have clearly defined how the data is internally structured in Plio along with the various terminologies that we use.
Bug Fixes and Enhancements 🐞
A more informative response when there are no search results on the home page 💁🏽
Improved speed for fetching the details of a plio! 👾
We added a few blurring effects and some spinners to better communicate the loading status of various pages and components 👻
For some plios, there was an inconsistency between the number of viewers on the home page and their respective dashboard page. This is now fixed! 🤓
Plio now has 6000+ users! 🚀
We are super excited to report that we are now a 6000+ family of educators and learners. It has been a super enriching journey for us, building Plio and seeing it receive a lot of love. Onwards and upwards :)
A long-pending retreat
After working together for almost a year now, the entire product team at Avanti Fellows (which includes the team responsible for Plio) met in Bangalore the past week. We talked about our long-term vision for how we want to serve our students, had a lot of amazing food (thanks to Akshay and Pritam) and learnt a lot of unexpected things about each other. Nothing beats the feeling of physically meeting people!
