Hello from Saloni! π
Hey everyone,
I am Saloni Choudhary, a girl who believes our hard work always opens up a world full of opportunities for us. If I am to describe myself in three words, they would be - Smart worker, a Team player, and Persistent. I enjoy brainstorming fun ideas and coding to make prototypes out of them. I am a dog lover and an avid traveler. My wanderlust has taken me to almost all corners of India - from Andaman to Sikkim and even quaint places like Sethan and Jabalpur.
I saw the opportunity to work as an Intern at Avanti fellows in December 2021, when I read about the work this organization does and what as an Intern I would be contributing to this noble deed made me excited about applying for this internship and I got selected after multiple rounds of interview.
My journey as an Intern fellow with Avanti fellows started in mid-January when the third wave of COVID-19 was at its peak. I thought that working with new people and with completely different software infrastructure would be difficult especially in a remote setting but that wasnβt the case here. I was guided through every little detail of Plio with so much patience that it all seemed a little easier day by day. While encouraging me to find solutions to my queries by myself, I was also given a head start so that I know where to start looking from. Initially, I was given a small task related to documentation so that I know the overall flow of Plio and about how to make a PR, as they are a crucial part of the development. In the first week, I was just told to explore the code, just go through it. It is possible that I do not understand the use of every piece of code but I should not get scared because everyone started from the very basics and step-by-step they gained more knowledge.
I have seen that the tasks done by interns at this early stage are not included in the main code layer during internships, but here I was given tasks that were directly part of Plio and that gave my confidence a major boost. I felt responsible for the feature or change I was working on, I felt more attached to Plio. I believe attachment towards the work you are doing is necessary because only then do you give your 100 percent energy and effort to it. In the past three weeks, I have learned Vue, a Javascript framework, testing in frontend and backend, terminologies, and most importantly how to not be scared of any new challenge that comes in front of you. I have also worked towards adding new features to Plio and currently have a major feature that would be extremely useful for all the users.
I am excited to work on many different features in the future and gain more knowledge from the people around me as every person teaches us something important in life. Looking forward to working together and cherishing every moment and experience we are gonna share in the next 6 months.
